About usage fees on Teachable

Teachable is built around your success. When you sell through Teachable, your effective fees go down as your revenue goes up. The vast majority of creators who use Teachable for commerce never encounter additional usage fees at all. At the time of drafting this document, more than 80% of customers do not incur any usage fees.

All usage is subject to our Fair Use Policy.

When do additional usage fees apply?

Additional usage fees are rare. Every plan includes unlimited published products and 1,000 GB of video storage. The only student-related fee applies to students you add to your school outside of Teachable Native Gateways or Custom Payment Gateways, and only once that count exceeds 100.

If you sell through either Teachable Native Gateways or Custom Payment Gateways, the students you sell to never generate a student usage fee.

Student Fees

Students enrolled through Teachable Native Gateways or Custom Payment Gateways are free

Every student who was added to your school through a completed Teachable Native Gateways or Custom Payment Gateways transaction for an amount greater than $0 is included in your plan at no charge. There is no limit on how many of these students you can have.

What counts against the included 100

Students added to your school by any method other than a Teachable Native Gateways or Custom Payment Gateways transaction. This includes administrative imports, the Teachable API, manual enrollment by an owner or author, US$0 checkouts, coupon-to-zero checkouts, and access provisioned from a sale completed on another platform (including Hotmart).

A student is counted once per school, no matter how many products they are enrolled in. A student who holds at least one enrollment that was not obtained through a Teachable Native Gateways or Custom Payment Gateways transaction counts against the 100, even if that student also holds paid enrollments.

How the count works

  • Included allowance. Every school includes 100 students added outside either Teachable Native Gateways or Custom Payment Gateways at no charge. If you have more than one school, each school has its own allowance of 100.
  • The allowance is not a cap. You will never be blocked from adding students because you reached 100. Students above 100 are simply billed at $0.50 per student per month.
  • Starting point. The count begins at zero on the date your school moves to this policy. Students who were already in your school on that date are never counted, regardless of how they were added. Only students added after that date count.
  • What is measured. For each billing period, we bill the highest number of countable students your school reached at any point during that period, less the 100 included. Deleting a student reduces your count going forward, but does not reduce the count for a period in which that student was already present.
  • Who is on this policy. Schools created on or after September 3, 2026 are on this policy from creation. Schools created before that date stay on the Legacy Usage Fees below until their first renewal on or after April 30, 2027, unless they choose to move earlier by contacting Teachable Support. Either way, the count starts at zero on the day the school moves.
  • Visibility. Your current count is visible in your school's admin area. The number you see is the same number billing uses.

Worked example

Your school adds 150 students outside either Teachable Native Gateways or Custom Payment Gateways in January, deletes 60 of them in February, and adds none in March.

What happens if usage exceeds plan limits

Student and product usage is billed as described above and is never blocked. If your video storage exceeds the included amount, or if your usage falls outside our Fair Use Policy, we may contact you to discuss options. Teachable reserves the right to limit your site from accepting new customers and your access if we are unable to reach you or reach an agreement within 30 days of our first outreach or issuance of the invoice.

Teachable may take immediate action without prior notice in the event of a sudden usage spike or when your usage significantly exceeds normal levels.

Legacy Usage Fees

This section applies to every school created before September 3, 2026 that has not yet moved to the current policy. If your school is on the current policy, the fees above apply and nothing in this section affects you. A school is on exactly one of the two schedules at any time, never both.

When legacy ends. Every legacy school converts automatically to the current policy at its first renewal on or after April 30, 2027. From that renewal, the Student Fees above apply, the legacy fees below stop, and the student count starts at zero.

Converting early. A legacy school may convert to the current policy before its renewal by contacting Teachable Support. On conversion, legacy fees stop and the student count starts at zero: students already in the school on the conversion date are never counted under the current policy.

Legacy definitions

Active Students: Legacy plans include from 100 to 5,000 active students per account. A student is considered an "active student" in a school if they are currently participating in at least one product, service, or other offering from the school. An active student can be imported or not.

Imported Students: An "imported student" is any student added to your school by a method other than Teachable's native checkout, for example through an administrative import or the Teachable API. This count is based on unique students imported during any twelve-month period, including students who were later removed or deleted, and Teachable may charge for any period in which additional usage fees were not previously collected. Under the legacy schedule, deleting an imported student does not reduce the count for that twelve-month period.
